Satellite co-ordination support

30/12/1999
Project
Client: Eutelsat
Author(s): Selçuk Kırtay, Private: Paul Hansell
Spectrum management

Long term technical support has been provided for Eutelsat on various satellite coordination issues.  These included:

  • Extensive interference modelling involving non-geostationary and geostationary satellite networks proposed for Ku and Ka band frequencies.  The implications of interference avoidance techniques were examined using in-house software tools.
  • The analysis of the impact of modifications in ITU-R Recommendations (e.g. rain model defined in ITU-R Rec.618).
  • The analysis of single entry and aggregate interference from High Density Fixed Service (HDFS) transmitters into Eutelsat Earth station receivers operating in the band 17.7–19.7 GHz.  The assessment of single interference entry included exclusion zone calculations around HDFS transmitters while the aggregate interference analysis involved the use Monte Carlo simulation techniques.
  • The examination of fixed satellite service and radiolocation radars sharing conditions in 13.75 – 14 GHz band with a view to modify the restrictions imposed on satellite services.
